Hansa Shipping
History

HANSA SHIPPING GmbH & CO. KG came into existence in 1997. It represents the independent ship management arm within the HANSA TREUHAND-Unternehmensgruppe [HANSA TRUSTEE Group of Companies]. It was founded as a shipping company in its own right with a view to coordinating the operations of the steadily growing fleet of HANSA TREUHAND with a maximum of technical and commercial efficiency.

When the businessman Hermann Ebel and Captain Bodo Franz launched HANSA SHIPPING, to begin with they were operating the HANSA CENTURY and the HANSA CONSTITUTION (each with 2810 TEU). These were the last two ships to be manufactured by the traditional Bremer Vulkan shipyard in the year 1997. This 'fleet' was supplemented at the time by the cruise yachts SEA CLOUD and RIVER CLOUD. By mid-2007 HANSA SHIPPING was operating 21 container ships, with a load capacity of 1350 to 5600 TEU, on a full management basis. In addition it has five tankers of the Afra or Suezmax class available. Another eight ships are currently being constructed at shipyards in Korea and China, and will be ready for handover by 2011.

The tankers and container ships are generally chartered out in the long term to reputed liner shipping companies, in whose service the ships ply on various routes across the oceans of the world. The chartering is arranged by our affiliated company HANSA CHARTERING.

As well as its ultra-modern fleet of tankers and container ships, HANSA SHIPPING's highly qualified team of technicians, nautical specialists and shipping clerks also operates the five-star cruiser fleet of SEA CLOUD CRUISES.  This has formed part of the HANSA TREUHAND Group since 1994, and offers individual trips to the highest level of quality. The fleet includes the big sailing ships SEA CLOUD and SEA CLOUD II, and the river yachts RIVER CLOUD and RIVER CLOUD II.

HANSA SHIPPING currently has 31 members of staff on its payroll.
